On Monday at 9:45am, Taunton Police received a report of an assault. However, when they arrived on the scene, the suspect fled into Lakeview.

In Lakeview, the suspect got onto I-495 while Lakeview Police gave chase. He then went on to Route 24 along which police set up road spikes in Bridgewater. The suspect blew out a tire and crashed at 9:50am, then fled on foot. He was caught and faces several different charges.

The spree later came to be called the “Christmas Joy Killings” because of the seeming randomness of the choice of victims.

Six people were involved in the killings. Two of them, however, were killed at the end of the spree. Of the other four, three are in prison and ineligible for parole until 2098. Keene, the leader, has been sentenced to die by lethal injection on July 21, 2009.

According to a police report, the man held a knife to her neck and tried to rob her after soliciting her services.

On April 27, the man was charged with  felony assault with intent to rob. He is being held on $100,000 bail. The woman who was allegedly assaulted has threatened to recant her statements, but the case is ongoing.

Currently, the act of prostitution is still considered legal indoors. Outdoor solicitation and prostitution are already illegal.

If the panel passes the bill, it will go on to the entire House of Representatives and could move on to the Senate from there. If the bill passes, Rhode Island will be the the fiftieth state in the country to criminalize prostitution.

Evidence has linked the man to an attempted robbery at gunpoint of a Warwick prostitute. This crime occurred in a hotel room as well, and the perpetrator matches the description in the other two crimes. No Rhode Island charges have been filed yet, but they are likely near.
