Man Pleads Guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter

Of the five men accused of murdering a father of six in West Belfast, Ireland, one of them has pleaded guilty to manslaughter but not guilty to murder. All five men were accused of stabbing the man to death outside his home in February of 2006. The other four are still facing murder charges.

The prosecution for the case has been given time to consider the plea, and is expected back in court on Wednesday.

A Louisiana man, David Jones, was recently charged with five counts of manslaughter after he caused a wreck that killed a family, including two parents, a child, and two foster children. Jones remained hospitalized from the injuries sustained in the car wreck. The bond was set at $100,000 for each count of manslaughter. Maine Truck Driver Charged with Manslaughter

A logging truck driver from Maine has been charged with manslaughter for the death of a Maine Department of Transportation worker. Last September, Kenneth Slauenwhite was driving his truck while it was loaded with tree length logs. He lost control of the vehicle while on a sharp curve on Route 6 in Kossuth Township. The logs spilled from the truck and hit an oncoming Department of Transportation truck that contained the victim, Jarrod Damon.

Slauenwhite is also being charged with elevated aggravated assault and other charges, in addition to manslaughter for the September incident.

North Dakota Man’s Bond Reduction Denied

A North Dakota man’s bond reduction request in a recent manslaughter case was denied on April 14, 2008. The request asked for the penalty to be lowered from $150,000 to $50,000 based on the man’s community involvement and income level. The judge denied the motion, however, because of previous criminal history including fleeing, felony escape, and bail jumping convictions. The man had also recently been charged with drug paraphernalia possession and providing alcohol to a minor in 2007.

The manslaughter case responsible for the bond occurred in October of last year. The passenger in the man’s vehicle died after their vehicle struck a street light post while speeding. Vehicular manslaughter can be charged when a death occurs because of violation of traffic and safety laws.
