At the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, six students were recently arrested for drug possession and intent to distribute. Four of the students were freshmen residing in the Galloway Hall dormitory. Three of the students are charged for possession and intent to distribute marijuana. One student allegedly possessed and had intent to distribute ecstasy, which generally carries a tougher penalty than marijuana. Another one of the students is charged with possession and distribution intent for psilocybin mushrooms and the last student is allegedly guilty of the same penalties for prescription medication.
In addition to the legal proceedings with the state, all students will be referred to the Dean of Students Judicial office. Law enforcement agencies became aware of the drug distribution after anonymous tips and one of the students sold narcotics to an undercover officer.
